Academic Calendar 2020-21
With public health, the student and faculty experience, and sustaining the college’s mission at the forefront of decision making related to the academic calendar, Bates has adjusted its academic calendar in 2020–21 in order to offer our fall and winter semesters in the 2+2 format. The 2+2 semester plan will be in effect regardless of whether Bates conducts in-person or remote learning in 2020–21.
2020
- August 1 — Fall charge due
- September 2, 8 A.M. — Classes begin, fall semester / Module A
- October 13 — Module A classes end
- October 14 — Module A reading day
- October 15 — Module A final examinations begin
- October 16 — Module A final examinations end
- October 19, 8 A.M. — Fall semester / Module B classes begin
- November 24 — Last day of classes prior to Thanksgiving Recess
- November 25-29 — Thanksgiving Recess
- November 30-December 7 — Opportunity to conclude semester remotely
- December 1 — Winter charge due
- December 1 — Module B classes end
- December 2-3 — Module B reading days
- December 4 — Module B final examinations
- December 7 — Module B final examinations end
2021
- January 13, 8 A.M. — Classes begin, winter semester / Module C
- January 18 — Martin Luther King Jr. Day — workshops take the place of classes
- February 5— Semester/year off-campus study registration deadline
- February 23 — Module C classes end
- February 24-25 — Module C reading days
- February 26 — Module C final examinations
- March 1 — Module C final examinations end
- March 2-3 — No classes
- March 4, 8 A.M. — Module D classes begin
- April 13 — Module D classes end
- April 14-15 — Module D reading days
- April 16 — Module D final examinations
- April 19 — Module D final examinations end
- April 23, 8 A.M. — Classes begin, Short Term
- May 18, 4 P.M. — Classes end, Short Term
- May 21-23 — Commencement Weekend
- May 23 — Commencement
*Students must register unless currently on a Bates-approved program or approved leave. Late registrants are subject to late fees and may be required to petition the Committee on Academic Standing to request late registration approval.
**Final examinations cannot be rescheduled because of student travel plans.
